SDBC Feature of the Week: Oscia Miles

Meet our #SDBC Feature of the Week!

Oscia Miles is a fierce advocate for issues of racial equity and education. She is a trained classical vocalist, who began her career as a music teacher in Rochester, NY through the Eastman School of Music. Her work with inner city youth compelled her to pursue a Master's in Public Administration at SUNY Brockport.

Her first role after completing her masters was as a Parent Educator for the Parents as Teachers program through the YWCA. As a Parent Educator, she acted as a child development specialist in working with young parents and their children. With an interest in cultural competency and cultural humility, Miles forged a new role at the YWCA focused on racial equity and leading strategic change through a trauma-informed perspective. Her work for the YWCA national Stand Against Racism initiative brought together over 300 participants for a march and rally in April 2019.

In 2019, Miles joined Rochester Prep High school as a Special Events Coordinator, creating memorable moments for students and staff. Today, she serves as Director of Operations at Rochester Prep Middle School 3.

She has been recognized as an Upcoming Leader by Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and has been named a finalist by the Rochester Chamber of Commerce for an Ignite Future Leader Award.

Miles is the mother of a 4-year-old son named Daniel.

When asked how she is living her best life as a single woman, Oscia replied, “Right now, I am learning about soft life. I am traveling and spending more time enjoying the small moments.

I truly appreciate my singleness! I have the ability to deeply focus on my mental, emotional, and spiritual growth. I am taking this time to work on the best version of myself, so when the right person comes along, I can give them the best version of me!”
